New Castle program honors MLK legacy

A program of worship, food and music is planned for Sunday in observance of the life and work of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The program will occur at The Place, 205 S. 21st St., New Castle. A light meal will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m. The event, a collaboration of several New Castle area faith communities, will be free and open to the public.

The featured speaker will be the Rev. Saint Samuel Johnson. Johnson is an ordained Disciples of Christ minister and Elder Emeritus with Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis. For 10 years, he was Chaplain and Pastor of Robin Run Village in Indianapolis, following his retirement from the United States Air Force. Rev. Johnson plans to speak on “The Strength of Love,” inspired by King’s writings and preaching.

Buchanon Unity, a vocal ensemble consisting of four siblings from the Buchanon family who have performed together for years, will help provide music.
