Lincoln High student attending West Point leadership course

Army Captain Nate LaMar, Military Academy Liaison Officer for East-Central & Southeastern Indiana, made several announcements about local students involved with the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Emily Powers, daughter of Nicole Powers and Robert Hicks of Cambridge City, has been selected to attend the week-long Summer Leaders Experience at West Point in June. Powers is currently a junior at Lincoln High School.

The following area residents have been appointed to West Point, to which they will report July 1 for Cadet Basic Training.

Noah Algee, son of William and Lisa Algee of Columbus. Columbus North High School, Class of 2019. Nominated by former U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly and former U.S. Rep. Luke Messer.

Caroline Swenson, daughter of LTC(P) Eric and Julie Swenson (Eric Swenson graduated from West Point in 1998). Columbus North High School, Class of 2019. Presidential nomination (as her father is career military) and nominated by former U.S. Rep. Luke Messer.

Mt. Vernon High School graduate Grant Williams, son of Craig and Heather Williams of Greenfield, will graduate May 25 from West Point and will be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army, as an Aviation officer, with his first assignment to Aviation School at Ft. Rucker, AL. Williams majored in Military History with an Environmental Engineering minor.
