James E. Hughes

James E. Hughes, 87, of New Castle, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at Henry Community Health. He was born December 26, 1931 in Henry County to the late Armon and Helen (Colvard) Hughes.

Jim retired from General Motors of Indianapolis and was previously employed at Chrysler Corp. in New Castle. He also retired from Fred’s Pharmacy in 2014 after 10 years of service. Jim owned and operated Jim’s Wholesale Bait Company in Spiceland. He was a member of the North 200 Church of Christ in New Castle. Jim was an avid fisherman and attended several fishing and bowling tournaments. He enjoyed camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet F. (Riggle) Hughes; daughter, Teresa Faye (Ed) Major of Avon; son, David Anthony (Carol) Hughes of Avon; 2 foster daughters; Mary Downs of Cincinnati and Teresa (John) Davis of Richmond; 7 grandchildren, Emily, Stefanie, James, Anna, Timothy, Jeremy and Sasha; 7 great-grandchildren, Evan, Zoey, Ethan, Ava, Samara, Troy and Drake; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Wayne; brothers, Larry Dean Hughes and John A. Hughes; a sister, Lois Ann Pate.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Phil Morgan officiating. Entombment will be in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Church of Christ, 240 E. C. R. 200 N., New Castle, IN 47362.
