One of the traditions of New Castle High School football is the annual Green and White Night, and this year the event is Friday beginning at 5 p.m. on Neal Field.

Green and White Night is an intra-squad scrimmage involving football teams from New Castle Middle School as well as New Castle High School and comes on the first day after contact (hitting and tackling) is allowed in practice by the IHSAA.

The evening gives players an opportunity to showcase some of their skills and for players to evaluate those skills under game conditions. No score is kept. It also gives fans an opportunity to view the teams before the season starts.

NCMS teams will take to the field first followed by the Trojan high school teams. The varsity version of the 2019 team is expected to be on Neal Field around 6:30 p.m.

New Castle travels to Lawrenceburg Friday, Aug. 16 for a controlled scrimmage (no score kept) and opens the season at home Friday, Aug. 23 against Franklin County. After that game against the Wildcats, the Trojans will play four of their next five games away from Neal Field with only the home game against Shelbyville Sept. 13 smack-dab in the middle of that stretch on the road.

The 2019 varsity Trojans will be a bit younger than the 2018 version of the team, and fans will see a lot of new faces. Eighteen seniors graduated from last year’s 5-5 team, most of them starters.
