The regular season for high school fall sports is here with girl golfers already out on the links and the other fall sports get the go-ahead to start on Saturday, Aug. 17 or the following week.

In its Fall Sports Bulletin, the IHSAA has established the dates and times for its tournaments in all the fall sports, and here they are starting in the order in which they will commence.

Girls Golf

The IHSAA allows girls golf sectionals to be held Friday, Sept. 20, Saturday, Sept. 21, or Monday, Sept. 23. Most sectional sites conduct play on Sept. 21.

Once again, our six local girls golf teams are assigned to four different sectionals. Shenandoah will travel to Noblesville’s Harbour Trees Golf Club; Blue River Valley will trek to Crestview Golf Course in Muncie; Knightstown will go to The Links Golf Club in New Palestine; and Hagerstown, New Castle, and Tri will play their sectional at Richmond Elks Golf Club.

All four of those sectionals will feed into the regional at Edgewood Golf Course in Anderson (hosted by Lapel) on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The two-day state finals will be played Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Boys Tennis

The sectionals will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2 through Saturday, Oct. 5, although many sectional sites have their championship matches on Friday, Oct. 4.

Once again, all five Henry County high schools are in the New Castle sectional while Hagerstown is assigned to the five-team sectional at Richmond.

The regional will be held in Richmond Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9. The semifinals on Oct. 8 will have the South Dearborn sectional winner facing the New Castle winner and the Connersville winner tangling with the Richmond winner. The winners in the semifinals play for the regional title on Oct. 9.

The Richmond regional winner will face the Crawfordsville regional winner in the second match of the Center Grove semi-state on Saturday, Oct. 12 after the Center Grove regional winner plays the Avon winner in the first match.

The state finals are Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. In the quarterfinals at Center Grove on Oct. 18, the Cuver Academies 2 semi-state winner faces the Center Grove 2 semi-state winner. The state semifinals and finals are Oct. 19 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Boys Soccer

New Castle and Knightstown are the only two local high schools with boys soccer teams. Sectionals are Monday, Oct. 7, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 12; regionals are Saturday, Oct. 19; semi-states are Saturday, Oct. 26; and the state finals are Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 at Fishers High School.

New Castle is in seven-team Class 2A Sectional 24 at Yorktown. The winner of that sectional plays in the regional at Oak Hill, and the winner of that regional will play in the semi-state at either Kokomo or South Bend St. Joseph.

Knightstown hosts five-team Class A Sectional 42 that it is in. The Knightstown sectional winner advances to the regional, also hosted by Knightstown, and the winner of the Knightstown regional advances to the semi-state in either Evansville North or Seymour.

Girls Soccer

New Castle and Knightstown also are the only two local high schools with girls soccer teams. Sectionals are Monday, Oct. 7, Thursday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 12; regionals are Saturday, Oct. 19; semi-states are Saturday, Oct. 26; and the state finals are Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 at Fishers High School.

New Castle is in five-team Class 2A Sectional 24 that it hosts at Neal Field. The winner of the New Castle sectional plays in the regional at Northwestern, and the winner of that regional will play in the semi-state at either Kokomo or South Bend St. Joseph.

Knightstown hosts five-team Class A Sectional 44 that it is in. The Knightstown sectional winner advances to the regional at Heritage Christian, and the winner of the Heritage Christian regional advances to the semi-state in either Evansville North or Seymour.

Boys and Girls Cross Country

Boys and girls cross country are not separated here because they run on the same dates at the same venues, but at different times.

Sectionals this year are Saturday, Oct. 12; regionals are Saturday, Oct. 19; semi-states are Saturday, Oct. 26, and the state finals are Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Laverne Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

Blue River Valley and Shenandoah compete in the sectional at Pendleton Heights, the regional is at Delta, and the semi-state is run in Fort Wayne, hosted by New Haven.

Hagerstown, Knightstown, New Castle, and Tri compete in the sectional at Connersville, the regional is held in Rushville, and the semi-state is at Shelbyville.

Volleyball

Volleyball sectionals will be contested Tuesday, Oct. 15, Thursday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 19. Regionals will be played on Saturday, Oct. 26, semi-states are Saturday, Nov. 2, and the state finals are Saturday, Nov. 9 at Ball State’s Worthen Arena in Muncie.

New Castle hosts eight-team Class 4A Sectional 9, which is the only eight-team sectional in 4A. The New Castle sectional champion advances to the Greenfield-Central regional, and the winner of this regional plays in the semi-state at either Columbus East or Jasper.

Hagerstown, Knightstown, and Shenandoah are in seven-team Class 2A Sectional 41 at Northeastern. The winner of the Northeastern sectional advances to the regional at Heritage Christian in Indianapolis, and the winner of that regional travels to play in the semi-state at either Columbus East or Jasper.

Blue River Valley and Tri are in seven-team Class A Sectional 56 hosted this year by Randolph Southern. The winner of the Randolph Southern sectional advances to the regional at Clinton Central, and the champion of that regional plays in the semi-state at either Plymouth or Frankfort.

Football

Football sectionals are Friday, Oct. 25, Friday, Nov. 1, and Friday, Nov. 8. Regionals are Friday, Nov. 15 and semi-states are Friday, Nov. 22.

Some of these games, particularly in the regional and semi-state, could be played on Saturday due to the distance between the two schools.

The state finals are Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The championship games in Class 1A, 3A, and 5A are on Nov. 29 and the title games in Class 2A, 4A, and 6A are on Nov. 30.

New Castle is in Class 4A Sectional 21; Shenandoah is in Class 2A Sectional 38; and Hagerstown, Knightstown, and Tri are in Class 1A Sectional 47.

Through the semi-state level of play, one of the schools playing hosts each game. The host team for each game is determined by the draw and the number of road games a team has played in the tournament.

The Courier-Times will update readers on the tournament schedules for each local team in each sport as they unfold.
