SHELBYVILLE — For the second meet in a row to open the season, the New Castle High School girls golf team faced a Hoosier Heritage Conference opponent as it traveled to Shelbyville Friday evening to face the host Golden Bears.

The Trojans shot a little better than they did in Wednesday evening’s 211-226 loss to Yorktown at Westwood Golf Club, but still came up a little short against the Golden Bears and got edged by four strokes 217-221.

The highlights of the match for New Castle were a personal best carded by sophomore Lylah Hutson, who shot a 55 for the nine holes, and junior Macayla McGowan earning medalist honors with a score of 48, just edging out the nearest Shelbyville competitor by one stroke.

The other two Trojan scores were junior Faith Firle 57 and sophomore Maggie Lewis 61.

New Castle hosted Cambridge City Lincoln Monday evening at Westwood Golf Club. It was the final home match for the Trojans the rest of the month as they will take to the road for seven consecutive meets or invitationals beginning Wednesday evening against host Shenandoah at Tri-County Golf Club.
