High School choir begins year with 'Spanish Night'

- Courier-Times Staff Report

The New Castle High School Choirs will continue their tradition of kicking off their year with an internationally-themed dinner performance; this year’s dinner and music will highlight Spain.

The event will be Thursday, Sept. 12, and will take place in the gallery hallway in New Castle Middle School. Two seatings will be available for dinner: 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before each event.

Guests will be served a traditional Spanish dinner as the high school choirs perform music made famous in Spain. The menu, designed and prepared by Katy Stevenson and Amy Madden, will include an appetizer and salad, with a main course of “Pollo Ajillo, Paella Vegetal, and Chicaros Com Jamon.” Guests will enjoy a lemon tart for dessert.

The choirs will perform a variety of music, including: “La March Real” (the National Anthem of Spain), “Más Que Nada” (Hold Me), “La Canción del Caminante” (the Wayfarer’s Song), “La Mañana en Segovia” (Morning in Segovia), “A La Nanita Nana” (Spanish Lullaby), “Contares de Mi Tierra” (Songs of My Homeland), “Esto Les Digo” (Say This), and “¡Cantar!” (Sing).

Tickets are $15 and must be reserved in advance by calling the high school office at 593-6670 and asking to speak with Chris Jolley.

Tickets will not be available at the door, so be sure to make a reservation by Monday, Sept. 9. The New Castle Choirs are under the direction of Matthew Hurst and Alyssa Czartoski, and are accompanied by Sheri Underhill.
