Henry County building inspector arrested on DUI charges

Courier-Times Staff Report

Henry County Building Inspector Benjamin M. Walters, 27, was arrested Friday night for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

The incident report stated New Castle police pulled Walters over around 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, near the intersection of 23rd Street and Grand Avenue.

Walters was arrested on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony operating while intoxicated with prior and public intoxication.

According to court records, Walters had previously faced several similar charges following a 2018 arrest.

The court granted Walters’ petition to install an ignition interlock system in his vehicle. Court documents show it was installed by Sept. 6, 2018.

Court records show Walters pleaded guilty in January to Class A misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.

As part of the plea agreement, all other charges from the 2018 case against Walters were dropped in February. The agreement also included 60 days of home detention and 305 days probation following home detention.

Court records show Walters’ requirement to use an ignition interlock system ended Aug. 22.

No new formal charges had been filed against Walters by press time Monday.
