Football

Pendleton Heights 33, New Castle 6 (JV)

The Trojans lost to the visiting Arabians Monday evening at Neal Field.

Highlights for New Castle were a touchdown pass from quarterback Jon Eberhart to Jack Criswell. That TD drive was kept alive by a big-time catch by Quinton Boatright.

Defensively, the Trojans had multiple big plays from sacks and tackles for loss. In the end, field position was a key in Pendleton finding the end zone.

Girls Golf

Richmond 186, Connersville 202, New Castle 219

The Trojan girls traveled to the Richmond Elks Country Club Monday evening for a three-way meet against the Spartans and host Red Devils and finished third.

For New Castle, Faith Firle led the way with a 52 and Lylah Hutson tied her personal-best score for nine holes with a 53. Macayla McGowan and Maggie Lewis shot 57 apiece for the other Trojan scores.

“We will try to prove we are capable of a much better team score today (Tuesday) against Wapahani,” New Castle Coach Jill Leversedge stated.

Titans fall to Knights

Tri lost to Northeastern last Thursday. Scores for the Titans were Mercedes Raley 57, Lexi Armstrong 68, and Camryn Ewing 73.

Junior High/Middle School Cross Country

Union City Invitational

The Blue River Valley Junior High School boys and girls cross country teams competed at Saturday’s Union City Invitational.

The Viking boys finished fourth in the meet. Team scores were Monroe Central 53, Richmond 80, Union City 94, Blue River Valley 103, Northeastern 122, Cambridge City Lincoln 122, Seton Catholic 133, and Cowan 143.

The Vikings were paced by medalist Tyler Flynn in sixth place, followed by Eli Sayre 19th, Zachary Crull 21st, Bryden Sealover 29th, Landon Gibson 36th, Connor Swoveland 74th, Conner Garrett 84th, and Robby Koontz 96th.

The Blue River girls finished eighth among 12 teams at Saturday’s Union City Invitational. Only 22 points separated third through eighth place.

Team scores were Monroe Central 57, Randolph Southern 126, Tri 140, Mississinewa Valley (Ohio) 145, Seton Catholic 150, Union City 151, Richmond 152, Blue River Valley 162, Cambridge City Lincoln 199, Union (Modoc) 206, Union County 222, and Cowan 274.

The Viking girls were paced by medalist Charlee Gibson in third and medalist Sydney Fellers in seventh, followed by Myah Burcham 40th, Jaydah McDaniel 48th, and Skilie Howard 76th.

Both Blue River teams run again Thursday at Shenandoah.

Junior High/Middle School Volleyball

New Castle 2, Richmond Test 0 (7th)

The 7th-grade Trojans defeated visiting Richmond Test 25-18, 25-15 Monday evening to improve to 9-3 for the season.

New Castle did a great job at a spur of the moment lineup change and stepped up to the challenge of new positions. The player of the game for the Trojans was Riley Crabtree with her leadership and aggressiveness, producing five offensive kills and four service aces.

Emily Grow and Brynn Barber led New Castle in serving with seven and six service aces, respectively. Bailey Stearns and Camryn Johnson both contributed two offensive kills and a service ace apiece. Kenzie Clark had a kill and Ashlyn Guffey had a kill and an ace.

The Trojan girls hosted Anderson Highland Tuesday evening.
