The New Castle High School boys tennis team made the short trip to western Wayne County Monday evening to face host Hagerstown

The Tigers ended up winning the varsity match 4-1.

For the second straight match, the only flight the visiting Trojans won came from their No. 2 doubles team of Aidan Sipes and Jackson Clapp, who played another great match in defeating Hagerstown’s Brett Spears and Nick Habzansky 6-3, 6-3.

“Hopefully everyone else can bring better effort and energy tonight against state-ranked Delta,” New Castle Coach Curt Huntley remarked.

The Tigers won the other four flights, also played in straight sets. AJ Abrams lost to Jayden Bussell at No. 1 singles 1-6, 3-6; Josh Martin lost to Eli Richards 4-6, 4-6 at No. 2 singles; and Trent Alfrey lost to Gabe Warfel 4-6, 1-6 at No. 3 singles.

In the No. 1 doubles flight, James Harris and Blake McKown lost to Hagerstown’s Mason Pruitt and Jacob Henley 6-7, 2-6.

The New Castle junior varsity defeated the Tigers 3-0. Trojan wins came from Sam Underhill at singles and the doubles teams of Sam Maddy/Bryce Jenkins and Max Upchurch/Andrew Lacey.

After hosting Delta in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match Tuesday, New Castle plays another HHC match today at Yorktown, hosts Rushville Thursday, and competes at the Shelbyville Invitational Saturday.

Hagerstown played a Tri-Eastern Conference match at Winchester Tuesday and hosts Union County for another TEC match Thursday.
