Semi-State Tickets

The Class 3A No. 1 New Castle High School boys basketball team will play Culver Academy in Saturday’s Class 3A northern semi-state championship game at 1 p.m. at Lafayette Jefferson High School.

Ticket sales for the semi-state have been announced and the price is $8. All seats are general admission and can be purchased at the NCHS Athletic Department Office according to the times listed below until the ticket allotment is gone.

Today from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., adult season basketball ticketholders can purchase the same number of tickets as the number of adult and student (seated with parents) season tickets they have in their name. Note: If adults are purchasing tickets for another family who are season ticketholders, a note from that family granting permission must be provided. A person may purchase for only one additional family each time in line. The general public may purchase regional tickets Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The maximum purchase is 15 tickets. Doors at Lafayette Jeff will open Saturday at noon. A pep rally and T-shirt pickup is 6 p.m. Thursday in the Fieldhouse.

Jenna Mosier 3-on-3 Tournament

The Jenna Mosier Memorial Scholarship 3-on-3 Tournament will be held Saturday, March 24 from noon to 6 p.m. at Blue River Valley High School. The entry fee is $30 per team and is open to players 14 years of age and older. Four players per team are allowed.

To register, go to Moorelandfriendschurch.org/basketball. Concessions will be available for sale. All proceeds go toward the Jenna Mosier Memorial Scholarship. Donations also are accepted.

BSU Women Invited to WNIT

MUNCIE — The Ball State women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation as an automatic qualifier to play in the upcoming Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) that consists of 64 teams. The Cardinals will host Middle Tennessee (18-12) Thursday in Worthen Arena. The time is yet to be determined. Ball State will be making its sixth straight WNIT appearance and ninth overall (all since 2002). The Cardinals are 5-8 all-time in WNIT play and won two games to reach the final 16 of the 2013 event. Last season, the Cardinals lost a first-round game at Indiana.

Ball State enters the WNIT with a 24-6 overall record. The Cardinals went 13-5 in Mid-American Conference play and earned a first-round be in the league tournament for the fifth time in the past six seasons before falling to Western Michigan in the quarterfinals. The Cardinals began the year with a perfect 11-0 non-conference record, highlighted by wins over Purdue, Vanderbilt, Butler and Western Kentucky.

BSU’s Grande named Academic All-American

MUNCIE — Ball State women’s basketball team’s junior guard Carmen Grande has been named to the 2017-18 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team, the organization announced Monday. Grande becomes only the second player in program history to earn the honor and the first since Kate Endress in 2004-05.

Grande ranks second nationally in assists per game (9.2) and second in total assists (275). She currently has 678 career assists and became the program’s all-time leader at Western Michigan Saturday, Feb. 10. Grande is currently seventh on the Mid-American Conference all-time assists list and was tabbed to the Third Team All-MAC team along with receiving MAC All-Defensive Team honors.
