Vitatoe and Hutson finish first in Southeast Divisional Meet

These members of the New Castle Swim Club competed in the Southeast (Indiana) Divisional Meet this past weekend and had several very good swims in the various age groups.

The New Castle Swim Club took 16 swimmers to the Southeast Divisional Meet this past weekend. They competed against 24 other teams (over 500 swimmers) from Southeastern Indiana.

Two swimmers from New Castle finished first: Chloe Vitatoe in the 100 Backstroke and making a state cut time, and Lylah Hutson who dropped a minute off her time in the 1600 Freestyle. Both were lifetime bests and outstanding swims for the two girls.

For New Castle in the 10 & Under group, the boys 200 Free Relay team of Jakob Dudley, Jacob Hamilton, Elliot Callaway, and Carter Leduc placed second; the girls 200 Medley Relay team of Drew Arthur, Rozlyn Gibson, Caitlin Sipes, and Rylee Miller placed fifth; and Rozlyn Gibson placed 19th in the 50 Free.

Also, Caitlin Sipes made the podium by finishing fifth in the 50 Fly and finished 11th in the 50 Back, 12th in the 100 Back, and 14th in the 100 Free; Jakob Dudley reached the podium by placing fifth in the 200 Free, and was 12th in the 100 free, 14th in the 50 Free, 10th in the 100 Back, 10th in the 50 Back, and ninth in the 100 Breaststroke.

In the 11-12 age group for New Castle, Jacob Johnson swam for four medals: fourth in the 50 Fly, sixth in the 100 Fly, seventh in the 50 Back, and fifth in the 100 Back. Johnson also was 13th in both the 50 and 100 Free.

Also, Aaron Turner medaled by placing 8th in the 500 and 100 Free, and 10th in the 200 IM, 50 Breaststroke, and 200 Free. he also was 17th in the 50 Free.

In addition, Olivia Owens finished 13th in the 500 Free and 18th in the 200 Free with lifetime-best swims.  She also was 41st in the 50 Free, 20th in the 100 Back, and 38th in the 100 Free. Chloe Vitatoe also finished second in the 200 IM, fourth in the 50 Free and 100 Fly, and fifth in the 100 and 200 Free.

In the 13-14 age group for New Castle, Lylah Hutson finished fifth in the 500 Free with a lifetime best, 12th in the 200 Free, 26th in the 100 Free, 43rd in the 50 Free, and 15th in the 100 Breaststroke. Aiden Sipes placed 17th in the 100 Breaststroke with a lifetime-best time. Sarah Weaver placed 23rd in the 100 Breaststroke, 28th in the 100 Back, and 36th in the 100 Free.

In the 15 and over age group, New Castle’s Andrew Turner finished 13th in the 200 Back, 37th in both the 50 and 100 Free, 22nd in the 200 IM, and 24th in the 100 Back.

It was a great finish to the end of the New Castle Swim Club season. Chloe Vitatoe will be swimming at the Indiana Swimming Age Group Championships March 17-18 in both the 50 and 100 Backstroke events.
