Solarize Indiana plans Mt. Summit meeting April 18

Solarize Indiana, a grassroots community group, will sponsor an informational meeting to tell area residents and business owners how they can add solar panels on their houses or businesses to offset their electric bills.

The informational meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at 1000 Degree Wood Fired Pizza, 101 N. Walnut, Mt. Summit. The meeting is open to the public.

Area homeowners and business owners installing solar panels by the end of 2018 are eligible for 15 years of net metering. Business owners also are eligible for a five-year depreciation schedule on their solar panels, which helps to pay off the expenditure more quickly.

“Working with Solarize Indiana also means we have already selected an installer who develops an individualized plan for you,” said Carolyn Vann, one of the organizers of Solarize Indiana. “Because we are working with a pre-selected installer, we’re able to buy solar panels at a bulk rate and have the opportunity to receive a group rate depending on how many people decide to install solar panels.”

Approximately 20 area residents participated in the Muncie Solarize Indiana program by the end of 2017. Now the program is expanding to Mount Summit and surrounding areas.
