Raiders defeat Warriors for MEC win

GASTON — The Shenandoah High School varsity baseball team played its first road game and its first Mid-Eastern Conference game Monday evening when it traveled to northwestern Delaware County and defeated host Wes-Del 6-3 to improve to 3-2 for the season.

The Raiders had seven hits on the day, led by Landon Freestone ‘s pair of singles. Kyle Randolph and Cy Stanley both hit doubles for Shenandoah, and Ty Alexander, Gavin Patrick, and Dylan Frost had the other hits.

Randolph scored a pair of runs for the Raiders, and Coleson White, Jake Webster, Stanley, and Tanner Goff scored a run apiece. Randolph, Patrick, and Frost came through with one RBI apiece.

Patrick went the distance on the mound for Shenandoah and recorded the win, giving up three runs (one earned), five hits, and three walks while striking out five Wes-Del batters.

Mason Whitted, Nick Armstrong, Jared May, Cody Smith, and Connor Townsend got the hits for the Warriors, Jordan Lehman, Armstrong, and Townsend scored the runs, and Jake Mitchell, Smith, and Townsend each had a RBI.

Wes-Del’s Korbin Zvokel was the losing pitcher, giving up five runs (three earned), walking two and striking out three in three innings of work. Lehman finished up on the mound for the Warriors, hurling four innings and giving up one unearned run, two walks, and fanning six Raider batters.

Shenandoah hosts Cowan today for another MEC contest.
