Viking girls second and boys third in quad meet at Union City

UNION CITY - The Blue River Valley High School girls and boys track & field teams traveled to Union City Thursday evening for a quadrangular meet, and the Viking girls finished in second place and the boys third.

Team scores for the girls were Wapahani 93, Blue River 64, Seton Catholic 34, and Union City 32. Boys team scores were Union City 86, Wapahani 2nd (no score reported), Blue River 37, and Seton Catholic 13.

The top five individuals and top three relay teams placed at this meet. The Vikings had several events where two people scored.

Blue River had one dual winner, Joslynn Witham, who finished first in the 100 hurdles (18.5 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (59.75 seconds).

Placing second through fifth for the Vikings were Brooke Taylor third and Lauren Madison fifth in shot put; Taylor second and Emma Claar fifth in discus; Witham third in long jump; Sydnie Kirk second and Alexis Whitinger third in high jump; the 3200 relay team of Lauren Haas, Taylor, Malory Polston, and Ashley Ooten placed third; Saundra Spurlock finished third in the 300 hurdles; Witham was second and Maddie Griffin third in the 100; and Whitinger placed fifth in the 1600.

Also for Blue River, the 400 relay team of Spurlock, Ooten, Claar, and Kirk finished second; Griffin was third and Brylee Kanouse fifth in the 400; Ooten placed third in the 300 hurdles; Whitinger finished fifth in the 800; Griffin was fourth in the 200; and the 1600 relay team of Kanouse, Haas, Spurlock, Griffin placed third.

Leading the Viking boys were Andrew Whitinger, who finished first in both the 1600 and 3200; Joey Liles, who placed first in the 400m, second in intermediate hurdles, and third in high jump; Noah Graat, who was fifth in long jump, second in the 100, and second in the 200; and Bryce Klein, who finished fourth in discus and fifth in high jump.

The Vikings competed at the Randolph Southern Small School Invitational Saturday.
