Titans pound Knights for fourth victory

C-T Staff Report

FOUNTAIN CITY - After losing at Wapahani earlier in the week, the Class A No. 1 Tri High School softball team trampled host Northeastern 22-3 in five innings Thursday evening to improve its record to 4-1 and remain spotless in the Tri-Eastern Conference.

The Lady Titans banged out 27 hits over the five innings and played solid defense to secure the win. Payton Moore got her fourth victory of the year, striking out eight hitters and giving up three runs on the evening.

There were several offensive standouts for Tri, led by Kaley Harrison and Lauren Bouslog. Harrison and Bouslog had three hits apiece and Harrison’s included a two-run homer in the third inning. Bouslog hit a bases-loaded triple in the second inning. Several other Titans had multiple-hit games, including Destiny Taylor, Breanna Reece, Chloe Gentry, Abi Busby, Kassidy Stewart and Kierstyn Conyers.

Tri grabbed a lead it never lost by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Taylor led off with a double to right centerfield. Moore then singled her in on a drive up the middle. Bouslog had the third Titan hit in a row driving in Moore. With two outs, Busby doubled in Bouslog to cap the scoring in the top of the first. Moore sent the Knights down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Tri continued its hot hitting by scoring eight more runs in the top of the second. Three singles in a row by Stewart, Taylor, and Moore loaded the bases for Bouslog, who hit a shot down the first base line into the corner of right field, clearing the bases for a stand-up triple.

Conyers drove in Bouslog with a single and Kaley Harrison singled to left and both she and Conyers advanced to second and third base on a passed ball. Busby walked to load the bases and Gentry then doubled to plate two more runs.

Reece followed that double with a drive off of the top of the left center field fence to score both courtesy runner Cheyenne Lee and Gentry. In the bottom of the frame, Northeastern scored two runs on four hits, one of those a triple to right centerfield.

The Titans added two more runs in the top of the third inning.  Conyers got aboard with a one-out single and Harrison blasted the ball for a two-run homer over the left centerfield fence. Northeastern rallied for another run in the bottom of the third with a lead off double. The runner advanced to third on a ground ball back to the pitcher and scored on an errant pick off move to cap Northeastern’s scoring.

In the fourth inning, Tri scored four more runs on four hits, highlighted by Busby’s triple. In the fifth, the Titans sent many pinch hitters to the plate and scored five more runs on six hits.

Lee led off the fifth with a double to right centerfield. Kalie Barber reached on an error on which Lee scored. Zoie Prince doubled to put runners on second and third. Madison Hill got an RBI single to put runners at the corners. That was followed by an RBI double by Kennedy Peggs. Gentry then hit a two-RBI single up the middle to make the score 22-3. Moore retired the Lady Knights in order to end the game.

Tri next played Eastern Hancock Friday evening. That game was moved up from Saturday due to a forecast for foul weather.
