CENTERVILLE — The Class A No. 1 Tri High School softball team defeated host Centerville 4-1 in a Tri-Eastern Conference game Saturday to improved to 5-1 in the conference and 16-2 overall.

Payton Moore was the winning pitcher, taking a no hitter into the seventh inning for the Titans. She recorded eight strikeouts and only two walks in the game. Tri scored two runs in the third and two in the seventh for its four runs.

In the third inning, Destiny Taylor reached second on a two-base throwing error by the shortstop. With two outs, Lauren Bouslog singled to put runners at first and third. Then Kierstyn Conyers hit a double to right centerfield to plate both runners for the first two runs of the game.

The Bulldogs bats were quiet through the first 6 innings and Tri had a 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh, the Titans plated two insurance runs. Breanna Reece led off the inning with a single to left and Kassidy Stewart followed that with a single of her own to put runners at first and second.

The next two Tri batters were retired, but Lauren Bouslog hit a double to score Reece and Stewart for a 4-0 advantage for the visitors.

In the last of the seventh, the Bulldogs got a bloop single over the shortstop’s head to put a runner aboard. She advanced to second base on a fielder’s choice. The next Centerville batter singled to right field to drive in the run to trim the lead to 4-1. Moore struck out the final batter to end the game.
