Knightstown Jubilee Days starts Wednesday

By DARREL RADFORD - dradford@thecouriertimes.com

Gas was 17 cents a gallon. Bacon was 50 cents a pound. It was September of 1949 and a new event was ready to entertain the people of the Knightstown area.

Fast forward about 70 years and that event – “Jubilee Days” – is still going strong, set for another memorable run beginning Wednesday and running through Saturday.

Highlights include:

• Amusement rides each day of the event.

• A queen contest at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Knightstown High School.

• A “cutest baby” contest scheduled 10 a.m. Saturday at the Friends Church, 214 E. Brown St.

• A parade at 1 p.m. Saturday.

• A cake walk immediately after the parade in the American Legion Post 152 parking lot, sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary.

“This is a family friendly event,” said Kelly Millhoan, one of the event organizers. “We invite the community to come, have fun, enjoy Knightstown hospitality and check out our local merchants.”
