Dispute over parking spot leads to man's arrest

Courier-Times Staff Report

KNIGHTSTOWN — A Whiteland man was arrested Tuesday evening in Knightstown, accused of pointing a firearm at another man during an argument over a parking spot.

Edward Eugene Cooper, 55, was arrested and preliminarily charged with pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon, according to a report from the Knightstown Police Department.

The incident took place about 5:18 p.m. in the 300 block of S. Jefferson St. Police were called because of a citizen dispute involving a firearm, the report said. When an officer arrived on the scene, he saw two men arguing in the street about a parking spot.

A loaded handgun was recovered during the investigation. Allegedly, Cooper pointed the firearm at the other man and made verbal threats, the police report said.

Cooper was taken to Henry County Jail, where he remained incarcerated Wednesday morning on a $17,000 surety, $1,450 cash bond. No court dates had been scheduled.
