Kirk Allan Horn

Kirk Allan Horn, 55, of Zionsville, formerly of New Castle, died on August 3, 2018. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Rita Stone Horn, and children Sam, Jack, and Caroline Horn.

Kirk was born March 22, 1963 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Robert Maurice "Bob" Horn and Jeraldine "Jeri" Hooton Horn.

Kirk graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School and Hanover College, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. Following college he became a Marion County Probation Officer, a position that inspired his lifelong passion for law and public service. Kirk received his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law, and was admitted to the Indiana State Bar Association in 1990. Since that time Kirk built a thriving law practice, Mandel Horn, in Carmel. He earned a strong reputation as an attorney specializing in civil rights, municipal defense, insurance defense, and litigation. On more than one occasion, Kirk was admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. Kirk was recognized as a 2018 Indiana Super Lawyer.

Kirk was an active runner, golfer, and tennis player, as well as an accomplished actor and playwright. Among his hobbies were beekeeping, banjo playing, and chicken farming. He was an avid traveler, joining his sons Sam and Jack on their respective 10-day, 80-mile treks at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. He mentored both sons through successful Eagle Scout Service Projects.

In addition to his wife and children, Kirk is survived by his mother, Jeri Horn, his sisters Vicki Wertz (Chris) of Indpls, Suzanne Horn Davis of Indianapolis, Karen Snyder (Matt) of Fishers, and his brother, Bucky Horn (Diann) of Noblesville.
