Two-Town Theater auditions are under way

Two-Town Theater Co. announces auditions for Fools, by Neil Simon, the first play in the 2018-19 season. Auditions are 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Madjax, at the corner of Madison and Jackson streets in Muncie. New Castle auditions are 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at First Friends Meeting.

The company chose Fools to honor Simon, who died recently. The premier American comic playwright wrote many famous plays. Fools is a comic fable concerning a small, remote village in Czarist Russia/Ukraine that was cursed with stupidity. An idealistic young teacher arrives and attempts to break the curse and falls in love with the village doctor’s beautiful daughter. The play is comic, but being a fable, offers a serious point.

There are roles for 10 actors including younger roles of a school teacher, doctor’s daughter and some male villagers.  Other roles are for middle-aged or older persons. Seven men and three women will have roles.

Fools leads off the five-play season billed as “Five Plays of Wit and Wisdom.” Following Fools, the company presents My Three Angels, an original comedy, a musical to be announced and The Importance of Being Earnest. Audiences may also look forward to New Castle native Gary Sloan’s one-man performance of The Haunted Prince, a play Sloan wrote concerns Sloan, the actor, trying to find Edwin Booth, the great American actor and brother of Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth. The company is planning a trip to The Stratford Festival and the Shaw Festival in Canada for late spring.

No preparation is need for auditions. Actors will read from scripts. Those who audition should bring notice of conflicts they have during September and October. For more information, contact director Dick Willis, (text or call) 765-465 1244 or email rmwillis@bsu.edu.
