Titans battle but lose to Bulldogs


CENTERVILLE — The Tri High School boys tennis team traveled to conference foe Centerville Wednesday evening and took the host Bulldogs to three sets in four of the five varsity flights, but eventually lost 4-1.

The only point for Tri came from the No. 1 doubles duo of Jimmy Jeffries and Dillon Stevens. They defeated Kobe Brown and Nate Reed 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In singles action, Kyle Falck played three sets, including three tie-breakers, against Spencer Surles at No. 1 singles. Surles prevailed 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1). At No. 2 singles, Evan Witte defeated Clayton Becker 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Carter Owens downed Dylan Mofield 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

The No. 2 Bulldog doubles team of Bryan Crawley and Mason Cunningham put away Isaiah Steele and Jarod Stevens 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

Tri played Thursday at Randolph Southern and will compete in the Henry County tourney on Saturday. The location for the county tourney recently was changed to Knightstown and will start at 9 am.
