The New Castle High School girls golf team held its Senior Night Wednesday at Westwood Golf Club by hosting Hagerstown and Knightstown in the final regular season meet of the year for all three.

The evening ended well for the host Trojans as they edged the Tigers 200-202 for the win while the Panthers came in third with a team score of 251.

The course at Westwood was in pretty good shape despite last weekend’s heavy rains, but spectators were instructed to keep their golf cats on the paved paths as much as possible, and there was standing water in a few spots.

The girls played the front nine with the No. 1 golfers beginning on hole No. 4 and moving forward from there.

New Castle’s two seniors, Annie Gillock and Aadra Norrod, were honored before and after the meet and did well during it.

Gillock and Hagerstown’s Mattie Doerstler shared medalist honors with 43 apiece. Norrod’s 49 was much needed as its helped her team immensely in the narrow victory.

Other scores for the host Trojans were Macayla McGowan and Faith Firle 54 apiece to count toward the team score of 200 and Maddy Meek’s 61 completed the varsity’s fifth score. The only completed JV score due to darkness was Maggie Lewis with 60. Lylah Hutson and Trinity Kibby showed much improvement but were unable to finish their rounds.

In addition to the score by Mattie Doerstler, other scores for the Tigers were Stefani Burns 54, Shay Doerstler 50, Paige Stuart 55, and Morgan Rector 59.

Knightstown was led by Daisy Hoffman who carded a 51. Other scores for the Panthers were Makenzie Deweese 62, Kira Smith and Makayla Bowling 69 apiece, and Emmalee Wilkerson 78.

New Castle and Hagerstown will compete in Saturday’s IHSAA girls golf sectional at Richmond’s Elks Country Club starting at 9 a.m., while Knightstown has to wait until Monday to compete in its sectional at New Palestine’s The Links Golf Club with an 8 a.m. start.

The Trojans competed Tuesday evening in the Hoosier Heritage Conference Tournament at Fall Creek Golf Course hosted by Pendleton Heights and finished sixth among the eight teams. The meet originally was scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed due to the heavy rain. Tuesday’s event was shortened to nine holes.

Pendleton Heights and New Palestine tied for the top spot in the team standings with scores of 181 apiece, but the host Arabians were awarded the trophy because the score of their fifth golfer was better. Finishing third through eighth, respectively, were Mt. Vernon (Fortville) 194, Greenfield-Central 194, Yorktown 194, New Castle 198, Delta 202, and Shelbyville 208.

The Dragons’ Annaliese Fox was medalist of the meet with a score of 38, two shots better than the Trojans’ Annie Gillock who carded a 40. Fox and Gillock were named to the All-Conference Team along with the Cougars’ Haley Hoagland (42) and Caroline Gibson (43), New Pal’s Izzy Gray (43), the Tigers’ Macy Brammer (44), Pendleton’s trio of Danielle Tinsley, Grace Wiggins, and Ryann Norris who shot 45 apiece, and the Marauders’ Meredith Johnson who also carded a 45.

In addition to Gillock’s 40, other scores for New Castle were Aadra Norrod 47, Macayla McGowan 55, Faith Firle 56, and Maddy Meek 59.
