Two-Town Theater to audition for 'My Three Angels'

Two-Town Theater Co. will have auditions for “My Three Angels” from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at First Friends Church in New Castle, and from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 and 2-4 p.m. Saturday Oct. 13 at Madjax, located at the corner of Madison and Jackson streets in Muncie.

The comedy is written by Sam and Bella Spewack, set on Christmas Eve, 1905, in French Guyana, and the temperature is 105 degrees. The play concerns a father who runs a small shop who is having business problems. His wife longs to return to France. A young daughter is disappointed in love.

Three convicts, trustees from Devil’s Island, are repairing the roof and overhear the family’s many problems. The “angels” descend from the roof and attempt to help. When an evil uncle who owns the shop arrives with the daughter’s boyfriend, and threatens to close the shop and break up the romance, the angels go into full action. Using a series of highly unorthodox but effective methods, they set things right for a merry Christmas morning.

Roles are for seven men: the father, the three convicts (two may be middle-aged, one in his 20s); the evil Uncle Henri is middle-aged, and his nephew is in his 20s. The seventh man is a handsome young naval officer who arrives late in the play. There are three roles for women: the mother, the daughter and a busybody who drops in and out of the shop, but is very important to the plot.

Performances are Dec. 7-9 in Muncie at Madjax, and Dec. 15-16 in New Castle. No preparation is needed for auditions. Questions may be addressed to director Dick Willis by text or cell 765-465-1244, or by email rmwillis@bsu.edu.
