Jaci Hadsell

NAME: Jaci Hadsell

AGE: 59

SPOUSE’S NAME, IF APPLICABLE: Bob and daughters Jessica and Andrea

What office are you seeking? Inside seat for New Castle Community School Board.

What is your political affiliation? I vote for who I believe is the best candidate for any position; however, I am a registered Democrat.

Why are you running for public office? I believe in giving back to my community. New Castle and its schools have provided much for my family and myself.

What is your education background? Diploma from Greensburg High School 1977, Bachelor of Science from BSU in teaching 1981, Master of Arts and Music Ed from BSU 1983, School Counselor Certification from BSU 1988 and Indiana Principal Certification from BSU 2000.

What experience do you have that lends itself to the office you seek? I am a parent of two who graduated from NC schools, classroom teacher for nine years, school counselor for 9.5 years, administrator for 17 years. Now in retirement, I am job sharing a school counselor position K-12 and substitute teaching in various nearby school corporations.

If elected, what is your top priority? School safety and keeping the needs of our children first.

What security measures that are not currently in place would you advocate? New Castle Middle School needs renovations to become a safer facility for our students and staff.

What are current school policies that you would like to see changed or added? Being on the current task force for NC schools, I have seen first hand, community members and school personnel working together to formulate policies and changes. I would like to see that continue in the future.

What strategies do you favor to face financial challenges? I believe past school leaders and board members have tackled many issues they have been faced with. I would encourage leaders to look for more “soft” monies (grants) to keep programs viable.

How would you encourage community involvement in school business? Get involved with their community school and stay involved. If you have children, join PTO, become a room parent. If you do not have children: volunteer at the school - read to a child or just listen and mentor them. Become involved with a task force or attend school board meetings to learn the results.

How would you like to see curriculum improved? Curriculum is often guided by the requirements of the state department of education and the laws. NC schools work to follow these regulations that are unfunded by the state. The current task force is formulating changes and improvements for the children of NC. These changes are for the positive growth of our students.

How do you make yourself accessible to citizens? I would be happy to publish my phone numbers and email addresses to be accessible to patrons. I will be glad to listen to concerns and follow up with the superintendent.
