Voting to turn the system around

Dear Editor,

There is a scene from the movie “Apocalypse Now” where Marlon Brando holds his head in his hand and mutters something like “Oh the horror, the horror”. That’s the way I felt when I saw that three small children from the same family were killed when a car speeded past a stopped school bus. The horror, the horror.

Incomprehensible, senseless death, pain and suffering for this family. This happens far too often in our county and it could be greatly reduced if not eliminated by technology. Every school bus in our nation should be equipped with cameras front and rear to record any vehicle that passes when it is stopped. Every driver that passes a bus when stopped should be quickly arrested and placed in a cell for a minimum of 30 days.

This could be done but what stops us? MONEY. That’s what stops us. Our tax system in this country has been changed from the system we had in the 1960’s and 1970’s from a system that provides the necessary funds to fix our roads, educate our children, provide low cost health care for our citizens to a system that helps to make multi billionaires out of multi-millionaires.

It’s just that simple. That’s why in a few days I’m going into the voting booth and vote. I’m gonna vote for the people that I believe will start to turn our system around, back to what we had when America really was great, not just for the wealthy, but for anybody who was willing to drag himself out of bed and go to work, put in at least a minimum amount of effort to produce products and pay taxes.

We had such a system and then along came a bunch of politicians who took care of the wealthy and paid little attention to anyone else, except when it came time for us to vote. Then they pay lip service to us, they instil fear of others in us to get us to vote for them. They tell us that the other side is gonna take our guns or give our jobs to an illegal. I say enough is enough. I’m gonna put my vote to people that I can at least hope will do what they say. I’m not saying who. I think your smart enough to figure it out.

Sincerely,

Mike Conwell
