Mothers & Friends of Veterans membership drive

The Henry County Mothers and Friends of Veterans is hosting a membership drive to help grow the organization. The volunteer group helps local veterans and veterans at the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital in Marion. Annual functions include a summer picnic, arts and crafts supply collection for VA patients, a Thanksgiving dinner for all local vets and providing Christmas for one local veteran family. Annual dues are $12. Meetings are at Noon on the second Thursday of the month (excluding January and February) at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 2910 Grand Ave., New Castle. Sign up now for Christmas ‘Adopt-a-Child’ program

Parents can sign up for the Christian Love Help Center’s “Adopt-a-Child for Christmas” program from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, and 2-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Children up to age 12 are eligible for the program. Call 765-529-1709 for more information.

Veterans Fun Run is Wednesday 

A three-mile Veterans Day Fun Run will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The New Castle Police Department will be partnering with recruiters from the United States Marine Corps and the Indiana Army National Guard to assist with the event. Runners will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the New Castle Fieldhouse parking lot and run from Baker Park down Main Street to Indiana Avenue and back. This is event is being done to honor those who have served our great nation and to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of it, according to event organizers. There is no registration for this event. Anyone wishing to run can just show up. Anyone wishing to show support may do so by encouraging runners as they go down Main Street.
