The new four bay building of the Blountsville Volunteer Fire Department was dedicated Saturday. It replaces the previous fire station, which was more than 60 years old and severely outdated.

Lieutenant Jonathan Harshman, left, on behalf of the Blountsville Volunteer Fire Fighters, presented a plaque to Chief Mike Lykens (center) in recognition of his many years with the department and his work to bring the new fire house to fruition. The new fire station was dedicated Saturday. It was built using funds from a variety of sources including a large grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, as well as in-kind contributions, county funding, privateonations, etc.

Chief Mike Lykens and Captain Carlos Riddle received a commemorative plaque and clock for the Blountsville Volunteer Department from Lloyd Wright representing the Indiana Volunteer Fire Departments’ Eighth District.
