7th annual pie baking contest is Saturday

Courier-Times Staff Report

The 7th annual Pie Baking Contest at Rust Townsend Appliance & Water Conditioning is Saturday, Dec. 8.

Each pie must be entered in the name of the person who made it and all bakers must be at least 18 years old. Only one entry per person.

The dessert pies must be made from scratch and based on a 9” pie plate or pan. Contestants may not use pie filling or pre-made, store-bought crusts. Each pie also requires a serving utensil and cover.

Bakers can register their pies from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Rust Townsend, 1717 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle. Pies will need to be in an appropriate covered container until judging.

A copy of the pie recipe and list of ingredients is also required with each entry.

Judging is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contestants are not allowed to stay for judging.

Judges will look for overall appearance, crust, filling consistency and overall taste.

The overall winner of the free range will be announced at 1 p.m.
