Meet the new Chamber director, Shaun DuFualt

By TRAVIS WEIK - tweik@thecouriertimes.com

Shaun DuFault comes to New Castle by way of Knightstown and, before that, northern Indiana past Fort Wayne.

As of Nov. 27, DuFault is the new director of the New Castle-Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

DuFault moved to Henry County in May, 2017, when he took a job as the material manager at Hiram Masonry in Knightstown.

“I worked with customers as well as sales people, trying to keep everybody happy as much as I could,” DuFault said.

Before joining the Hiram team, DuFault was a full-time pastor at Auburn Alliance Church in Auburn.

It was as a pastor that DuFault learned to work with people and build relationships. Being the senior pastor also helped him better understand how much work goes into running a non-profit organization, such as the NCHC Chamber of Commerce.

DuFault is replacing former NCHC Chamber Director Missy Modesitt, who is now the executive director of Delaware County BY5 Early Childhood Initiative, Inc.

NCHC Chamber President Kevin Brown said DuFault stood out from the other applicants because of his demeanor and desire to help build the work of the Chamber.

“He made us feel like he’s really excited about that,” Brown said.

Brown said the Chamber board was also impressed by the research DuFault had already done about the community in the 18 months that he’s lived here.

“He kind of interviewed us,” Brown said, referring to the questions DuFault asked during his interview.

He wanted to know things like why New Castle lost a successful coffee franchise like Starbucks (Brown said that was a corporate decision) and how the loss of the Chrysler plant affected the Henry County community.

DuFault said he wants to get more involved with the community, but also knows it wouldn’t be a wise move to start any new programs before he learns the New Castle and Henry County business leaders and gets comfortable in his new role.

“I’d like to take the first six months to year just to get to know the community,” DuFault said. “Being the main representative of the Chamber, it’d be wise to get to know more of the business people.”

DuFault’s first official meeting with the New Castle-Henry County Chamber of Commerce members will be at Lunch with the Chamber, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at Henry County REMC.

Downtown Christmas Walk

The NCHC Chamber of Commerce is also hosting tonight’s Downtown Christmas Walk in New Castle. The event is 5:30-8 p.m.

The community is invited to enjoy all the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas. There will be live music, luminaries, a horse carriage ride, children’s activities, a photo booth, downtown shopping, food and a community snowball fight.

The Downtown New Castle Christmas Walk will also feature appearances by Santa Claus, the Grinch, Disney’s Belle and Hermione from Harry Potter.

The Find Frosty contest will also have kids 10 and under visiting different downtown businesses looking for that special snowman.
