Riz's Roundball Picks Week 5 (Jan. 10-12)

By DAVID RISLEY - drisley@thecouriertimes.com

Welcome back to the contest after our two-week break. I was 11-5 in my predictions in Week 4. Lisa Knotts, with a 12-4 record, beat me in Week 4 and two other contestants tied my mark.

The contest will run uninterrupted the rest of the season, ending the week of the boys basketball state finals.

In Week 5 of the Roundball Picks contest, we have six high school girls games and nine high school boys contests on the docket. Good luck to you on your predictions.

Girls High School Basketball Games

Game 1: Cambridge City Lincoln at Hagerstown (Thurs.)

This game should be close, but the Tigers are at home, so pick them to defeat the Golden Eagles.

Game 2: Lapel at Shenandoah (Thurs.)

The Bulldogs will be a good test for the Raiders as all of their losses were to pretty good teams, but I still think Shenandoah will win at home.

Game 3: Anderson Prep Academy at Tri (Thurs.)

The host Titans will get the victory against the Jets in Lewisville.

Game 4: Greenfield-Central at New Castle (Fri.)

The host Trojans will get the victory against the Cougars in the first game of this girl/boy doubleheader.

Game 5: Randolph Southern at Blue River Valley (Sat.)

The Vikings want to play for a MEC championship and will get to do so with this win over the visiting Rebels.

Game 6: Hagerstown at Franklin County (Sat.)

This one is a tough call, but since the Wildcats are at home, I predict they’ll defeat the visiting Tigers.

Boys High School Basketball Games

Game 7: Randolph Southern at Blue River Valley (Fri.)

The surprising Rebels share the lead in the MEC with Wapahani (both are 3-0), but I think the host Vikings will hand them their first conference loss of the season.

Game 8: Winchester at Hagerstown (Fri.)

The Golden Falcons are coming off a Randolph County Tournament championship and have won four in a row. I think Winchester will make it five in a row with the victory over the Tigers.

Game 9: Knightstown at Centerville (Fri.)

The Panthers will pick up the TEC win over the host Bulldogs.

Game 10: Greenfield-Central at New Castle (Fri.)

The Cougars are just 2-10 but have played better recently. I still predict the host Trojans to defeat them in the second game of a girl/boy doubleheader.

Game 11: Shenandoah at Union County (Fri.)

The Patriots lead the TEC with a 3-0 record, but this is not a conference game for either school. The Raiders will get the victory in Liberty.

Game 12: Tri at Cambridge City Lincoln (Fri.)

It probably will be close, but the host Golden Eagles will beat the Titans in Cambridge City.

Game 13: Knightstown at Northeastern (Sat.)

The Knights are coming off a Wayne County Tournament championship and have won three of their past four games. I predict Northeastern will defeat the visiting Panthers in Fountain City.

Game 14: Rushville at New Castle (Sat.)

The Trojans will have another dual-win weekend as they will get the victory over the visiting Lions.

Game 15: Shenandoah at Monroe Central (Sat.)

The visiting Raiders also will have a dual-victory weekend after they beat the Golden Bears in Parker City.
