FOUNTAIN CITY—The New Castle High School wrestling team traveled to Northeastern High School Friday and Saturday to compete in the Wayne County Classic.

Once again, lack of wrestlers to fill spots at certain weight classes caused a major roadblock to the Trojans winning a team match, but several New Castle grapplers performed well as the regular season heads to the home stretch.

The Trojans forfeited every individual match at 106, 113, 138, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285 pounds, plus a few others here and there. Double forfeits occurred at some of those weight classes, resulting in no points for either side.

New Castle’s Traye Owens and Tytus Ragle continued their outstanding seasons as both went 8-0 in the two-day event.

Tri and Hagerstown also participated in the Wayne County Classic, and both met the Trojans in team matches on the mat.

New Castle fell to the Tigers 54-24. Individual wins for the Trojans came when Garrison McCune won by forfeit at 120 pounds; Traye Owens pinned Traci Weber in 1:50 at 126 pounds; Seth Moore won by forfeit at 145 pounds; and Tytus Ragle pinned Clay Cochran in 45 seconds at 152 pounds.

All of the Titan points came through forfeits by New Castle. Chris Gardner, Jaroden Cornes. James Cornes, Bryan Wright, Trinity Baker, Dennis Trosper, Robby Pandoli and Clayton Scott won matches in their weight classes in that manner.

The Trojans fell to Monroe Central 54-18. Traye Owens won by forfeit at 120 pounds, Garrison McCune won by forfeit at 126 pounds and Tytus Ragle pinned the Golden Bears’ Jackson Franklin in 1:26 at 152 pounds.
