Henry County Council still seeking citizen appointments

By TRAVIS WEIK - tweik@thecouriertimes.com

The Henry County Council is looking for volunteers to serve as its voice on local committees and boards.

Veteran council member Harold Griffin said accepting applications from Henry County residents helps make the process more transparent and allows the council to be an example for other governmental entities.

The first opening is on the Capital Improvements Committee. The three-year term will run from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2021.

The citizen appointee to this committee will need to attend meetings on an as-needed basis to make recommendations to the Henry County Council regarding Food & Beverage Tax projects.

This position must be filled by a Knightstown city resident who voted in the 2018 Democrat primary.

The second opening is for the Southwest District Ambulance Service Board of Directors. This one-year term runs Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2019.

The board of directors meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of January, April, July and October.

While any registered voter in Henry County may apply for these appointments, preference will be given to those living in the Southwest District Ambulance Service’s service area.

The final opening for citizen representative of the Henry County Council is to the Spiceland Town & Township Library Board of Directors.

This four-year term runs from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2022.

Any potential board member must be able to attend meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month. The applicant must also be a resident of Spiceland or Spiceland Township.

Anyone interested in being appointed to one of these positions can submit a letter of interest with their qualifications, experience and education to the Henry County Council at 101 S. Main St., New Castle, IN 47362-9211.

Letters must be received no later than Wednesday, Jan. 23 for consideration.

The Henry County Council will vote on candidates and appointments at the regular Jan. 24 meeting.

Current incumbent appointees to these positions are welcome to apply for reappointment.

Copies of letters of interest from candidates not selected by County Council will be given to the County Commissioners, the New Castle Mayor and the New Castle City Council President for consideration for their citizen appointments.
