Sports Briefs

Boys Basketball

Rushville 51, New Castle 50 (9th)

The Trojan freshmen hosted the Lions Tuesday evening, fell short on a fourth-quarter comeback, and lost by a point. New Castle trailed by double digits halfway through the final period but battled back to cut it to a single point on a Sam Maddy three-pointer from almost half-court. Unfortunately, time ran out before the Trojans could finish the job.

Bryce Jenkins led New Castle in scoring with 18 points, Sam Maddy had 16, Kyler Sears added nine, and Dawson Scott rounded out the scoring with seven. Aydan Petty hit the boards hard with double-digit rebounds.

The freshmen Trojans fell to 3-6 on the year and continue their season next Tuesday at Richmond.

Girls Basketball

Shenandoah 52, Centerville 38

The Raider girls, fresh off a Henry County Tournament championship, went on the road Tuesday night and defeated the host Bulldogs by 14 points for their ninth win in a row and improved to 14-4 for the season.

Scoring for Shenandoah were Erikka Hill with 15 points, followed by Kathryn Perry 10, Rachel Soden nine, Faith Muterspaugh eight, Jenna Stewart six, and Stormie Fitch and Sydney Campbell with two points apiece.

The Lady Raiders host Lapel tonight.

Lapel 76, Knightstown 46

The Panther girls traveled to western Madison County Tuesday night and scored the most points they had since a victory against Blue River Valley on Dec. 6, but still fell 30 points shy of the host Bulldogs.

Knightstown slipped to 3-14 for the season and plays at Northeastern Saturday night in the first game of a TEC girl/boy doubleheader.
