John W. Gaither

John W. Gaither, of New Castle, went to his eternal home on January 4, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born on May 30, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Henry and Helen Gaither.

John served in the United States Air Force for 6 years and fought in the Berlin Airlift and Korean War. He worked for Mattel Toys for 28 years and retired in 1987. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle.

John enjoyed his hobby of collecting classic cars, going to car shows, playing Skipbo and Euchre with his family, going out to eat, and most of all spending time with his doggies.

John is survived by his wife, Donna Lukens Lynch Gaither, whom he married on June 4, 1997; sons Glen Gaither and Rodney Gaither of Medford, OR; daughters Terry Hinojo of Fresno, CA, Glynnis Gaither of Portland, OR, Reba Montgomery of New Albany, IN, and Pam Henderson of New Castle, IN; sister Carol Hubbard; step-sons Rick and Mike Lynch; step-daughter Brenda Mullins from Wilkinson, IN. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father Henry Gaither, mother Helen Gaither, step-father James Medsher, first wife Beatrice, grandson Jonathon, sister Judy Gaither, and brother Richard Gaither.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 12, 2019 from 9-10am at First United Methodist Church in New Castle, 1234 Church St, New Castle, IN 47362. A Military funeral service will follow immediately after.
