Man arrested following 3-week drug investigation

Courier-Times Staff Report

Sheridan resident Richard Ervin remained in Henry County Jail Thursday morning on several pending drug charges.

The jail lists a Sheridan address for Ervin and said he was a former New Castle resident.

Indiana State Trooper Tom Ratliff arrested Ervin around 8 p.m. Wednesday following an ongoing drug investigation that started Dec. 18.

Ervin popped up on the New Castle Police Department radar this week before being arrested by ISP.

According to police records, New Castle police trespassed Ervin from a Broad Street apartment around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

City officers received a second call to the apartment around 3 p.m. Tuesday alleging Ervin may have battered someone there in the early-morning hours.

The New Castle Police Department forwarded the information to the Henry County Prosecutor’s office.

New Castle law enforcement officers assisted the Department of Child Services around 10 a.m. Wednesday in an incident involving Ervin, as well.

State Trooper Ratliff booked Ervin into Henry County Jail at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Ervin was preliminarily charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe, possession of a smoking device, possession of a legend drug, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.

The Henry County Prosecutor’s office had not filed formal charges as of press time Thursday.
