Harold G. Ingersoll Jr.

Harold G. Ingersoll Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019.

After graduating from Culver Military Academy in 1943 Harold served in the Navy as an ensign on board the battleship USS Washington BB56. After service, he graduated in 1948 from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill. and then earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Graduate School of Business.

In 1951 Harold married Virginia Ann Semar in Seattle, Wash. They made their home in New Castle, Indiana.

Harold held various management positions at Ingersoll Steel and became president of the company in 1956. He retired in 1978 from Ingersoll Steel.

Having been elected in 1969 of the Board of Directors of the American United Life Insurance Company of Indianapolis, Harold was an executive committee member for 25 years and had previously served as Chairman of the Audit Committee. He was also a member of the Building committee for the AUL, 36-floor tower building in downtown Indianapolis. Harold retired from American United Life in 1996 and watched it grow.

Harold lost his wife Virginia Ann Semar in 1973. His parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Ingersoll Sr. also died in 1973 in a traffic accident near New Castle’s Memorial Park. He lost a sister Judy of Sanford, Conn. and brothers William of Biltmore Estates, Ashville, N.C. and Edward of Chicago several years ago.

Harold is survived by brothers, John “Jack” of Lake Forest, IL. and Stephen “Steve” of Appleton, Wis., many nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.
