Omer Griff Cooney

Omer Griff Cooney went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2019 in Morgantown, IN, where he was currently residing. Omer was a longtime resident of New Castle, IN.

He was born February 6, 1932 in Cambridge City, IN, a son of Lorena Whitton Cooney and William Cooney.

Omer worked at Modernfold, Inc. in New Castle for 17 years and the Indiana State Highway Division, 8 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force as Sergeant and was a Korean War Veteran. Omer also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He was a Charter Member of Evening Optimist Club and he served as a coach for the 5th & 6th grade basketball league.Also, he was a founding member of Little League baseball in New Castle, IN. He served many years as an official and coachfor baseball and basketball leagues.

Omer is survived by his son, Timm (Brenda) Cooney of Shelbyville; daughters Teresa (Mike) Major of Noblesville, Karen (Bill) Schwab of Cambridge City and Tammy (Joe) Higgins of Myakka City, FL, also several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Cooney; brothers James, Arthur and Floyd Cooney; and sisters Eula Cooney, Eva Hamke, Sylvia Hinners, Mary Blake and Ruth Brooks Smith.

The funeral services will be at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Tom McGilliard. Friends may call from 12-2pm Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Burial will follow in the Military Section of South Mound Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
