Road projects on the horizon

By TRAVIS WEIK - tweik@thecouriertimes.com

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced 20 new projects to fix up state roads running through Henry County.

Most of these  projects involve bridge work along the interstate and highways. There will also be some pavement work and preventative maintenance around the county in the next few years.

INDOT will begin accepting contract bids April 3, 2019, for various pavement patching and rehabilitation work on Interstate 70 between Ind. 9 and Ind. 3.

Contract bids will then start Nov. 14, 2019, for bridge deck overlay work on Ind. 3. The bridges in question cross Big Blue River near Ind. 38 and Little Buck Creek near Ind. 36.

Bids will open that same day for bridge deck overlay projects on I-70. Work will take place on Kennard Road, CR 350 W and CR 25 W where each road crosses the interstate.

The state transportation department will open bids Dec. 11, 2019, for bridge deck overlay work along I-70 crossing Big Blue River and Ind. 3.

Painting projects for the I-70 bridge over Buck Creek will open Dec. 11, as well.

Getting into the new year, INDOT will begin accepting bids Jan. 15, 2020, for a small structure replacement project on Ind. 35 north of the Randolph-Henry County line.

INDOT will also accept bids March 4, 2020, for preventative maintenance and asphalt overlay on U.S. Hwy 40 near the Knightstown city limits.

April 1, 2020, will see bids open for Ind. 234 projects, including bridge deck overlay work over Duck Creek and small structure and drain construction.

INDOT will also begin accepting bids April 1, 2020, for hot mix asphalt overlay and preventative maintenance on Ind. 38 from the Madison-Henry County line to Ind. 3.

Timelines for each project will be announced after INDOT has accepted the bids.
