Betsy Mills to speak on Lugar Series at GOP meeting

Betsy Mills will speak on the Richard H. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series at the February meeting of the Henry County Republican Club. It will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Henry Co. Republican Headquarters, 1325 Broad St., New Castle. It is free to attend, open to the public and open to the media.

Betsy Mills is a lecturer of communications at Penn State University, in State College, Pennsylvania, whose students she teaches remotely from her home in Jefferson Township. She also serves as secretary of the Henry County Republican Central Committee. She received a bachelor’s of arts in women’s studies in 2008 and a master’s of arts in communications, both from Ball State University. Her master’s thesis was on John McCain’s November 2008 concession speech.

According to its website, www.lugarseries.com, the Richard H. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series was founded in 1990 as a political leadership development program designed for fast-tracking and mainstreaming outstanding Hoosier women into positions of influence in the public arena. The success of the Lugar Series led to the implementation of 19 similar programs across the country. To date, there are 469 alumnae of the Lugar Series and more than 2000 graduates of the Series nationwide.
