More than just plays

By TRAVIS WEIK - tweik@thecouriertimes.com

Grab your sweetheart and put on your sleuthing hat for the first ever Valentine’s Murder Mystery Dinner by Guyer Opera House.

The murder mystery dinner invites guests to enjoy a meal Feb. 16 and then solve a “murder” where everyone is a suspect!

Instead of taking place on the historic stages in Lewisville, the Guyer actors are bringing their Valentine’s Murder Mystery Dinner to the New Castle Armory on Grand Avenue.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 and dinner is served at 6 p.m. The meal will be provided by Primo.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.guyeroperahouse.com/ by clicking the “Get Tickets” button.

Guyer board member Sydney Dungey said the last day to register is Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

The Guyer guild hopes to put on other community events at The Armory this year, too.

Dungey said the board is still working out details for a possible 21-and-older Halloween Bash and a Roaring ‘20s New Year’s Eve Party at the New Castle venue.

The Guyer Opera House will be the site of the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at 6 p.m. March 16.

Doors to the annual event open at 5:30 p.m. that night, with dinner beginning at 6 p.m.

The community is invited to join the Guyer family for a fun night of homemade food, cold beer and lively entertainment. Tickets to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner are $20 per person.

The Guyer Opera House is located at 110 W. Main St., Lewisville.

Upcoming auditions

The next planned stage performance at the Guyer is “Heathers: The Musical,” directed by Katharine Ivey.

The show features light-hearted “fun songs” and humorous characters, while also discussing darker issues, including bullying, teen suicide, sexual assault and violence in schools.

Auditions for the show will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 and 6 p.m. Feb. 18.

Actors for the play need to be 16 years old or older. A parent or guardian needs to be at auditions with any 16 and 17 year old actors.

Show dates for “Heathers: The Musical” are May 17-19 and 24-26, with two performances May 25.

Sarah Griffin will be the musical director, and Sydney Dungey will be assistant director.
