Riz's Roundball Picks Week 14 (March 14 and 16)

By DAVID RISLEY - drisley@thecouriertimes.com

I was 10-5 in my predictions for Week 13, not bad considering I’m usually lousy at picking regional winners.

Larry Keisling had a 12-3 record last week to beat mine and one contestant tied my mark.

Week 14 features all eight of the boys high school basketball semi-state championship games, all on Saturday. Since men’s college basketball conference tournaments do not have pairings set at this time for games Friday and Saturday, we are including seven of those games that are played Thursday after the deadline to complete our list of 15 games.

Good luck to you on your predictions.

Boys high school basketball semi-state championship games (all games Sat.)

Game 1: Class 4A North – Carmel vs. Penn at Lafayette Jeff

I think the Greyhounds are the best team left in Class 4A and will defeat the Kingsmen.

Game 2: Class 4A South – Center Grove vs. Ben Davis at Washington

This could be a close one but I predict Zach Hahn and his Trojans will defeat the Giants.

Game 3: Class 3A North – Marion vs. Culver Academies at Elkhart Central

New Castle couldn’t defeat the Eagles at this level last year, and I don’t think the Giants will this year, either.

Game 4: Class 3A South– Silver Creek vs. Indianapolis Attucks at Seymour

The Dragons played really well to win Regional 8 and I think they’ll knock the Tigers out of the tournament Saturday.

Game 5: Class 2A North – Frankton vs. Andrean at Lafayette Jeff

This, too, should be close, and I’m picking the Fighting 59ers (who knocked off Westview) to edge the Eagles.

Game 6: Class 2A South – Linton-Stockton vs. Shenandoah at Seymour

I’ve said all season that Shenandoah will be playing in Bankers Life on March 23, so obviously I’m picking the Raiders to defeat the Miners.

Game 7: Class A North – Lafayette Central Catholic vs. Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at Elkhart Central

The Class A No. 1 Braves are really good, so I predict them to defeat the Knights.

Game 8: Class A South – Barr-Reeve vs. Bloomfield at Washington

The Vikings get to play this game almost in their own back yard and I predict they’ll defeat the Cardinals.

Men’s College Basketball Conference Tournament Games (all games Thurs.)

Game 9: UNLV vs. San Diego State

I think the Aztecs are better than the Runnin’ Rebels and will get this win.

Game 10: St. Joseph vs. Duquesne

I predict the Dukes will get the victory over the Hawks..

Game 11: Alabama vs. Mississippi

The Rebels have a better record than the Crimson Tide and will win on the neutral court.

Game 12: SMU vs. Tulsa

The Golden Hurricane will get the win over the Mustangs..

Game 13: Bethune-Cookman vs. Howard

The Bison are a little better than the Wildcats and will get the conference tournament victory.

Game 14: Texas vs. Kansas

The Jayhawks have the better record and will get the win over the Longhorns.

Game 15: Seattle vs. Grand Canyon

I think the Redhawks will pull out the victory over the Antelopes.
