NCHS places second at Academic Invitational

New Castle High School academic teams earned top ribbons Thursday at the HHC Academic Invitational. The math team took first place ribbons, the interdisciplinary team won second place and the science and English teams won third. New Castle finished second overall in the meet. The next competition is April 9 at Monroe Central.

HOPE Initiative meeting Thursday about substance abuse

Guests from Forward Wayne County will give a presentation during the monthly HOPE Initiative meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Forward Wayne County is based out of Richmond and has been working for some years to combat substance abuse in that area. HOPE Initiative supports the local LiVE Coalition to combat substance abuse disease in Henry County. The public is invited to attend Thursday’s meeting at 1426 Broad St., New Castle.

Winter Showcase at 7 p.m. Thursday

The New Castle music departments for the Winter Showcase is at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14. The evening begins in the New Castle Middle School gym for the performances by all three winter guards. The indoor percussion ensemble and Red Hot Blues will then perform in Bundy Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and guests choose which group they want to help support. Donations for multiple groups are appreciated.

3rd annual BRV Ag Breakfast Saturday

The Blue River Valley Jr.-Sr. High School Agriculture Department is hosting the third annual BRV Ag Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, March 16 in the high school cafeteria. The meal is free and includes sausage, eggs, pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Ag students and FFA members will collect free will donations supporting the BRV Ag barn.

Knightstown to celebrate Sam Moore Chase Jr. Day

The Knightstown Town Council has proclaimed March 18, 2019 to be Sam Chase Day to honor the first Knightstown player to be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on March 20 in Indianapolis.

The Hoosier Gym, where Sam’s exploits led to his induction into The Hall of Fame is hosting a community wide reception Monday, March 18. Reception begins at 6 p.m., program begins at 7 p.m.
