Tiger track teams compete in Patriot Invite

By KENT GRAY of HHS -

ANDERSON—Hagerstown High School’s varsity track teams competed in the Patriot Invite at Anderson University on Saturday. The indoor meet, hosted by Jay County, featured 22 mostly large schools, including North Central of Indianapolis, Pike, and Ben Davis.

“The level of competition rose dramatically from the (Muncie Burris) Owl Invite last week, “ commented Hagerstown Head Coach Kent Gray. “As a result, we did not place as well, but we did show improvement in many areas and put several kids in the top 10 in their events.”

Top-10 finishers for the boys included Ryan Golliher second in shot put (50-2.5), Holden Robinson third in the 60 hurdles (9.09 seconds), the 4 x 400 relay team of Logan Tuttle, Jaylon Favorite, Dylan Napier, and Robinson fourth (3:40.94), the 4 x 800 relay squad of Tuttle, Quentin Osborne, Eli Halcomb, and Adam Nadler fifth (9:01.02), Halcomb seventh in the 3200 (10:36.48), Jadon Locke eighth in shot put (42-8.75), and the DMR team of Osborne, Kent Caudill, Nadler, and Halcomb tenth (12:09.46).

For the Tiger ladies, Anna Shafer was the only participant to crack the top ten with a tenth place finish in the 3200 (14:17.26). Every relay team improved its performance significantly, however, including the DMR team of Shafer, Makayla Matanich, Makynna Matanich, and Maci Matanich, which dropped nearly 30 seconds from last week’s performance.
