Home, family conference set for June 3-5 in Indianapolis

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue Extension is co-sponsoring the 106th annual Indiana Extension Homemakers Association’s Home and Family Conference, designed to strengthen families and communities.

The conference, June 3-5 at the Wyndham Indianapolis West hotel, includes nearly 20 sessions related to health and wellness, building communities, and technology.

In addition to daily concurrent sessions, attendees can take part in a guided tour of the Hope Center and Garfield Park Conservatory, a Melody Makers concert, or classes on heritage skills and crafts.

Keynote speakers are Kristin and Danny Adams, viral video creators known for their lip-sync mashups. Their “Laughter is the Best Medicine” program mixes storytelling and improv through crowd games and audience participation.

The conference will conclude with a banquet at 6 p.m. June 5.

The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association was founded in 1913 by a group of homemakers and Purdue professors with the goal of providing social and educational opportunities for homemakers and encouraging the teaching of home economics in schools. In its first year, the group contributed to the passing of the Smith-Lever Act, which created the Cooperative Extension Service to provide instruction in agriculture and home economics.

Early registration by May 1 for the full conference is $150, and single-session registration is also available. There are additional fees for heritage skills, the tour and concert. For more information or to register online, visit the conference website at bit.ly/2oLoNvw.

The Wyndham Indianapolis West is located at 2544 Executive Drive. Room reservations for the conference can be made by calling 317-248-2481 or going online.
