Former Trojan Schofield honored as Player of Week

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio—Indiana University East juniors Francisco Perez and Kole Schofield earned River States Conference athlete of the week honors in their respective sports, the league announced April 8.

Perez (Venezuela) is the RSC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

Schofield (New Castle, Ind.) is the RSC Men's Golfer of the Week.

Perez went 2-0 at both singles and doubles on the week as the IU East men's tennis team won both of its matches. That included an RSC victory over Brescia and a non-conference win over Saint Francis (Ind.).

Perez won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 over Brescia and 6-2, 6-2 versus Saint Francis. His doubles matches were wins of 8-0 and 8-4 in the two matches. His singles victory against Saint Francis clinched the team win for the Red Wolves.

IU East (10-9 overall, 2-0 RSC) will play at Ohio Christian on March 10.

Schofield took runner-up honors at the Pikeville, Kentucky Spring Invitational to earn River States Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.

Schofield fired rounds of 74 and 73 at the UPike tournament to finish second of 33 players overall. That performance led the Red Wolves to runner-up of five schools in the team standings.

IU East is at the Midway (Ky.) Invitational this week with the final round April 9.
