Tabor and Bumbalough on rosters for Saturday's Hoosiers Reunion Classic

By DAVID RISLEY - drisley@thecouriertimes.com

KNIGHTSTOWN — New Castle High School seniors Cameron Tabor and Luke Bumbalough are listed on the girls and boys rosters, respectively, for the 14th annual Hoosiers Reunion All-Star Classic Saturday at Historic Hoosier Gym in Knightstown.

The event, normally held in early June, has been moved to April this year. The girls game will tip-off at noon, followed by three-point and slam-dunk competitions. The boys game will follow that at 3 p.m.

The talent on display this year is as good as it ever has been for these games. Nineteen boys who played in past Classics made it to the NBA, while seven of the girls have reached the WNBA.

Former boys participant Kyle Guy helped lead Virginia to this year’s men’s NCAA Division I basketball tournament championship, and former girls participant Jackie Young helped lead Notre Dame to a runner-up finish in this year’s women’s NCAA Division I basketball tournament. Young was the top pick in this year’s WNBA draft by the Las Vegas Aces and will the eighth to make it to the WNBA.

Indiana Fever Head Coach Pokey Chatman and Fever No. 1 draft pick (No. 3 overall) Teaira McCowan from Mississippi State, the tallest player in this year’s draft at 6-7, are scheduled to greet fans from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Indiana Pacer Pacemate Kayla is scheduled to sing the National Anthem prior to the girls contest.

In addition to Tabor, 10 other girls who made the IndyStar Indiana Girls All-Star Team will play in the Classic. Including Bumbalough, 11 boys who were named to the IndyStar Indiana Boys All-Star Team are slated to play in Saturday’s Classic. They are Armaan Franklin of Indianapolis Cathedral, Trayce Jackson-Davis of Center Grove, Isaiah Thompson of Zionsville, Brandon Newman from Valparaiso, Dawand Jones and Jalen Windham from Ben Davis, John-Michael Mulloy from Carmel, Cobie Barnes of Floyd Central, and Jesse Bingham of Warren Central.
