Henry County Highway Superintendent Joe Copeland presented his business to the Henry County Commissioners at their meeting on Wednesday Night. The Superintendent had two items to present to the county officials.
Copeland announced that they were looking into purchasing some piling for a bridge on 325 East that is south of 200 North.
Copeland said the last time he bought piling was in 2014 and that the price had tripled since then.
Copeland had a quote from Nucor Skyline Steel for $66,109.20.
The other bid was substantially more than this, he said. The superintendent recommended that the commissioner go through NuCor because it was way cheaper.
Copeland said, “We wanted to start on the bridge at the end of September or possibly the beginning of October. I spoke with the contractor and he said that he is available.”
The motion was made by Bobbi Plummer to accept the quote from NuCor and the motion was passed 3-0.
Copeland had more business to discuss Wednesday.
“A week from today we plan on closing County Road 700 South, West of SR 103,” he announced
Copeland said they are going to start working on Bridge 182 to do bridge deck repair to the structure.
Copeland also said that they are doing the bridge one half at a time so one lane can resume flowing through.
“School starts Aug. 3 from what I have been hearing. So I talked to the transportation department,” Copeland said. “There will be temporary traffic signals. We’re gonna be able to run one lane through the bridge. They were okay with that. Hopefully we can do this project in six weeks.”
The Commissioners also approved a quote for some pavement markings. The quote was presented by Copeland from Acura Striping.
The quote was for $36,016.49. The motion was made by Bobbi Plummer to accept this quote and the motion was passed 3-0.
