Work has begun at the retail lots in front of First Baptist Church in New Castle. The new building will be the home of a new carryout Domino’s restaurant.

More construction started last week on State Road 3 in New Castle. Don’t worry, this new project won’t make you merge lanes.

Stampd Development out of Richmond has officially started work on their 0.8 acre lot in front of First Baptist Church. The church decided in 2019 to sell unused portions of their large parking for potential retail development along Memorial Drive.

Del DeMao, of DeMao Retail and partner in Stampd Development, told The Courier-Times the new building will have two storefronts.

DeMao confirmed his company has a signed lease with a Domino’s franchise group out of Dayton, Ohio.

“We’re really excited to bring Domino’s back to New Castle,” DeMao said.

It has been at least a decade since the pizza chain had a presence here.

DeMao said the New Castle Domino’s will have a pickup window similar to the one Richmond’s east side.

The 3,000 square foot building on Memorial Drive will have potential for a second drive-up window on the other end, as well.

DeMao is still talking with possible tenants for the second storefront. He’s looking at national and regional restaurant and retail prospects.

DeMao hopes to have construction done by early this fall.

ERA Integrity realtor Daniel Kinnaird is the local agent listing the South Memorial Drive lots.

“It’s been fun to do something that’s going to change the landscape,” Kinnaird said.

Kinnaird has a potential buyer for the second retail lot, right beside the future Domino’s site. There has been speculation on social media of what might go there; Kinnaird said nothing is official yet.

County records show that lot still belongs to First Baptist Church.
