The New Castle-Henry County Public Library has plenty of events going on in the month of December.

Starting with the Family R.E.C. Program which occurs every Tuesday and Thursday of the month. READ books, EAT a snack, and CREATE a craft all around the theme of the day. This event runs from 10-11 a.m. each day.

Family R.E.C. starts Dec. 2 and continues Dec. 7 & 9, 14 & 16, 21 & 23 and Dec. 28.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Raintree Children’s Choir will be performing their Christmas Concert. Seating will be limited for the event. The event will run from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the auditorium.

On Tuesday, Dec. 7, the library is decorating it’s TeenScape for Christmas. This is going on from 4-4:30 p.m. that day.

Help the library decorate the TeenScape for Christmas! The library will have Christmas music and lots of snacks provided for those to help, seating is limited. You can register on the library website.

Teen Tuesdays on Dec. 14 will be a “Grab & Go Craft” where teens make their own snowmen ornaments with plaster of Paris and paint. Registration is required to pick up a free craft bag from the main circulation desk. Teens can make their own ice cream on Dec. 21 and their own snow globes on Dec. 28. On Thursday, Dec. 30, the library is hosting a Noon Year’s Celebration and Movie. You can make a craft to countdown to 12 (noon). After the craft and countdown, enjoy free popcorn as the library will watch Disney’s “The Emperor’s New Groove.”

The Noon Year’s Eve celebration starts at 11:30 a.m. in the auditorium. All ages are welcome.

{strong style=”font-size: 1em;”}Library of Trees{/strong}The Library of Trees starts on Dec. 2. It’s an event where organizations and members of the community decorate a Christmas tree based on a book of their choosing.

Join the library for opening day of its month long Library of Trees program. The trees are then displayed in the library throughout the holiday season. This years Library of Trees will run from Dec. 2 through Jan. 3.

Patrons visiting the library can vote for their favorite tree by placing canned food items in the box under their favorite tree.

The tree with the most donations will be declared the 2021 Library of Trees champion and will receive a trophy. All food will be counted and distributed to local food banks on Monday, Dec 20.

Winter Reading ProgramsThe Library’s Winter Reading Program for adults, teens, and children is here. The program will start on Dec. 18 and will run to Jan. 15.

This winter, the New Castle-Henry County Public Library is celebrating llamas!

Enter our Adult Winter Reading program for a chance to win a Kindle Fire! Sign up in the Beanstack app and log your minutes from Dec. 18-Jan. 15. For every 100 minutes you read, you’ll earn a badge and a chance for a weekly prize. When you complete the challenge at 800 minutes, your name will automatically be entered in the raffle for the grand prize.

The Teen Winter Reading program will also have a Kindle Fire grand prize. Like the Adult reading program, teens sign up in Beanstack and log their minutes from Dec. 18-Jan. 15. For every 100 minutes they read, they’ll earn a badge and a chance for a weekly prize. When they complete the challenge at 800 minutes, their name will automatically be entered in the raffle for the grand prize.

Enter the Children’s Winter Reading program for a chance to win a llama grand prize basket! Sign up in Beanstack and log your minutes from Dec. 18-Jan. 15. For every 50 minutes children read, they will earn a badge. At 200 and 400 minutes, they get a small prize that you can pick up at the Children’s Department. When they complete the challenge, their name will automatically be entered in the raffle for the grand prize basket.

Holiday ClosingsThe New Castle Henry County Public Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
